Reed asks that two notes of 1781 and 1791, which make up this letter, be printed. The notes explain how certain forgeries were introduced into an edition of Gay's works and led to the charge in the Monthly Review that Thomas Gray had plagiarized Gay in his Church-yard Elegy.
